Adam Diller
Adam Diller, 59, moved to Deer Isle from Colorado in the fall of 2019 with his wife, Teri Rippeto. He’s been a stable hand, a construction worker, a shopkeeper, and a mechanic, among other jobs. But it was after trading life in suburbia for 5 monastic years as a long-haul truck driver that he took up photography to record the everyday scenes and people that inspired him as he traveled the country.
"My photos are taken with a 5-year-old android cell phone and because I’m not experienced with highly technical photography I take a simple approach. My occupation provides a daily opportunity to be in places that offer a view of unembelished Maine and the time to closely observe it. The images that draw me remind me of the big things - the natural beauty in hard work, effort, perseverance, struggle and its evidence in everyday life. I love images that conjure a story, even if we can’t ever know what the true story is."
